Infographics and how to keep your reader’s interested

Infographics are an easy way to get your point across, whether they feature in a simple blog post or in a complex, technical article. Communicating a concept visually is an effective way to gain your reader’s understanding. With an 800% increase of Google searches for infographics in the last year, it’s evident that it is an increasingly popular way of providing easily consumable information. 

In fact, so popular are they that it’s become something of an in joke that The Guardian newspaper loves infographics so much that there is now one published every three or four pages.

I recently stumbled across a blog post named 10 Tools for Creating Infographics and Visualizations written by Miranda Rensch. The post talks about various web sites which can be efficiently used to produce the perfect visualisation. The post also explains how to make sure your message is communicated correctly with tips including the promotion of the infographics you create.

The key thing I took from the blog was a website called infogr.am; a free web-based tool that contains a wide variety of themes, graphs and charts. The website allows you to produce a creative inforgraphic with the option of using your own images and/or videos. You are then given the link to embed the inforgraphic onto your chosen website.

This is a particularly interesting topic for some of Stone Junction’s clients whose industries range from engineering and electronics to IT security and electrical engineering. Producing an infographic to compliment a technical article or blog post, or even stand alone, can provide your content with the attention it deserves.

After all, if they can work well in The Guardian, then there’s no reason why they can’t work just as well for us in the realm of technical PR.
