Is your PR company chartered?

Technical PR agency Stone Junction is a CIPR member
Stone Junction is a CIPR
charted consultancy

As many of you know, most of our consultants here at Stone Junction are members of the CIPR (Chartered Institute of Public Relations) and those who aren't  are fully paid up and qualified members of the IET (Institute of Engineering Technology).

So what, I hear you cry, is this a boasting post?

(If you want help generating more press coverage, producing award entries or e-mail newsletters, writing a Blog or generating opportunities to speak at events, give us a buzz. We are available on 01785 225416 or you can e-mail richards@stonejunction.co.uk.) Or just read on...

Well, no, not really (although it is a bit). The reason I mention it is that I'm pretty sure your accountant is certified or chartered. I imagine that when you had your boiler maintained this year, the person that did it would have been Corgi (Gas Safe) registered. The nursery where you drop your children each day is Ofsted inspected and the MPs who make nationally significant decisions for you are... OK, well maybe the last one doesn't apply.

My point is that if you are using a PR company (or a company that does PR but calls it something else – yes, I'm talking about you social media marketing consultant and you content marketing man) and they aren't chartered, it’s time to ask yourself why.

We often win accounts with companies who tell us that the last PR person they used let them down so badly that they were nearly, ‘put off the notion of PR for life’. When I suggest they report that person to the CIPR I'm normally told it wouldn't do any good as the consultant wasn't a member. That alone is hugely significant for me.

So, when you are choosing an agency, its consultant’s certified practitioner status, or lack of it, is something you really should consider. After all, just as you don’t want your boiler breaking down this Christmas; neither do you want your PR campaign giving up the ghost.
